very unusual way to think. That the stories are the same which they seem to be the same. But then we must ask about other movies. I believe it is just a coincedence that they seem the same. Going to another world and letting your imagination wonder is very common and magical. Yet i have read these books recently and the story is quite the same, but the writing is not. Alice in Wonderland is about a girl who is learning and growing and she seems to go with the story. She follows the White Rabbit and through the story she stands up for what she believes in, while she is learning. It surprises me that she does not go through all the theory that something like Wonderland can not be real. On the other hand Dorothy goes through Oz and is brave but all she wants to do is to go back home. She learns to be brave and have friends but she does not take it all in. She just wants to be home.

I am really surprised this post didn't draw more conversation as it really got to the gist of what this project is all about! Your statement <i>"You cannot get mad because someone disagrees with you and has a different interpretation then you."</i> is what makes blogging about literature so powerful. You can think one thing and write about it...then someone has a completely different take on the same thing and they comment back. I can't wait to see Tim Burton's interpretation, but I am sure it will be very different from the Disney Version, and the book, and probably different from the first "telling" of Alice when it was simply a series of oral tales. I think about the 2 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies and how very different they are... any time a work is interpreted (annotated, blogged about, or recreated in media form) it will take on some individual "connection"-good, bad, or indifferent. Isn't that really what learning is all about ;-)

to piggy back of Michael's comment:

“By making the decision to go down the rabbit hole it led her to a whole new world that she could gain from”

We all must make decisions like this. We must be willing to go down that hole and explore the unknown. If we avoid it, we will miss out on opportunities that could positively alter our lives. Keep heading down that hole!

I"m so glad that you were able to see the value of a project like Alice. The fact that you recognize this and are becoming fluent in this new method of communication will put you head and shoulders above your peers as you move forward in life.

I agree with Michael. I have been so impressed with the details and the connections you have made in your posts Kristen. This one asks SO many good questions, I would have liked to have seen how you connect both personally, to other posts and to the literature. How would YOU answer some of these questions? I do like how you have made me think with your posts :)

One of my greatest enjoyments in my English classes (took Honors Eng. in college and even taught Victorian Age one semester for credit) was being challenged by my professors and those in the class who connected so well to literature. It forced me to think deeper about the content and ties to many different things. Some of it is ludicrous, I admit. Still, it is what makes literature so engaging: trying to find hidden meanings throughout.

You're making a nice start with your thoughts. Keep enjoying what you read. I have to say, you will start to see your own writing become more developed and more interesting. You can start playing with story lines and characters. What becomes more of a game seems less like work.

Thanks for sharing your project and your thoughts with the rest of us. I know I will be sharing it all with my high school English staff. Mr. Long has done a wonderful thing by letting you guys decide your own learning like this because that is real life.
